Design Process

Initial Consultation

During this initial meeting we will discuss your requirements, how you wish to use your garden and the type of space you want to create. By looking at the types and styles of gardens that appeal to you we can tailor our design concept to suit your needs. At this point we will also consider any hard landscaping you may require for patios, decking, water features etc and discuss existing features that are to be retained.

This is a one to two hour visit to the site which is free and without obligation, where we can offer advice and explain the design and build process.

Design Brief

A design brief will then be drawn up that will detail in writing the main concept and ideas. This may include some rough sketches of the concept and a detailed breakdown of our charges. At this point, if the design brief meets your approval, we will ask you to accept our terms of engagement, so we can proceed to the next stage.

Survey and Site Appraisal

This involves measuring the site, taking levels and photos, noting the existing planting and taking soil samples. In the case of larger sites or those with extreme changes in levels, a more detailed survey, carried out by independent contractors, may be necessary. Our survey does not cover underground services such as electrical cables, water or gas pipes or other underground features.

The survey and appraisal is a necessity before continuing onto the design stages of the process. The results will have to be taken into account and related to in the design; there will be a charge for this service.

Concept Design Stage

A concept design is an exploratory sketch design stage which investigates an option for your site following the initial consultation and survey. A non refundable deposit is payable before work is started; however there is no obligation for you to continue once the concept design is complete.

Sketches and drawings are produced to show the conceptual ideas behind the design, and to illustrate how the garden will potentially look when completed. At this stage alterations can be made to the concept design if necessary. The first two hours of the design and development time are free of charge.

Detailed Design Stage

This stage is the development of the final design it is individual and original and in this phase the detailed plans, sections and elevations are drawn up to scale, including planting plans and details of construction work. From these drawings it is easy to see the exact layout of the new garden and copies of these drawings are used by the landscaper to create the scheme.

Construction and Planting

Once the design stages are completed the construction and planting can begin. There is no obligation for you to proceed with the work after the drawings have been completed. We would be happy to suggest landscapers who could carry out the work if you have not selected one yourself.

We are able to organize the sourcing and planting for your new garden should you wish this. We can also provide a detailed maintenance schedule to help keep your garden looking at its best.

Project Management

This service is charged separately and involves overseeing the project from start to finish, including liaising with contracts and regular site visits.

We can offer return visits to the site after completion to check on the establishment of the plating and answer any detailed questions.

Consultation

We also offer a consultation service, where we are able to give ideas, planting suggestions, design solutions and advice on gardens. A one-off charge is payable for this service.
